The Twin Rivers United Educators (TRUE) will be holding an open nomination election for ONE CTA State Council of Education Representative, and ONE Alternate Representative, each with a three year term going from June 26, 2016 to June 25, 2019. The State Council Representative and Alternate will be elected by and from the TRUE active membership: the Representative by majority vote and the runner-up becomes the Alternate (by plurality vote).

“The State Council of Education is the statewide representative body of CTA and serves as its legislative and policy making body. It considers and acts upon proposals affecting the welfare of the public schools of California; it elects the CTA Executive Officers and other Board of Directors members, determines CTA membership dues and adopts the CTA annual budget.”

This election will be by electronic/online. TRUE members must make sure the TRUE office has their current home e-mail address to receive the link to vote online. For those not wishing or not able to vote by electronic means, during the voting period paper ballots will be available only at the TRUE office, which is open Monday-Friday, 9 am – 7 pm.

The TRUE Elections Committee has completed the vote count/tally for the election of CTA State Council Representative and Alternate. Here are the official results:

None of the  candidates obtained majority vote as required, so we must have a RUN-OFF ELECTION between the 2 candidates that received the highest number of votes: JULIEANNE NEAL and KERRI ASBURY. In the run-off election, the candidate receiving the highest number of legal votes cast will be elected as the State Council Representative, and the runner-up will be the Alternate. The following election timeline must be followed exactly:

 

RUN-OFF ELECTION TIMELINE:

April 21, 2016 ……………… Announcement of results and of run-off election and timeline.
April 26-May 03, 2016 ……Voting takes place BY ELECTRONIC BALLOT ONLY. Voting period closes at 4:30 pm
May 03, 2016 ………………. Starting at 4:35 pm the TRUE Elections Committee will tally electronic/online voting
By May 04, 2016 ………….. Announcement of election results
May 16, 2016 ………………. Challenges to this election must be in writing and are due by 4 pm at the latest at the TRUE office (3318 Howard Street, Suite 10, McClellan, CA 95652). Post-marked date not accepted.
By May 31, 2016 ………….. Elections results must be reported to the CTA Elections Committee
