Dear TRUE Members,

It is truly inspiring to hear the stories and see the pictures of our members Working to Rule.  This is such a difficult action for us to do because we all go above and beyond for our students every day.  I continue to hear from teachers who are talking to their students’ families about negotiations and how the parents they are talking to are being very supportive of educators.  If you haven’t taken the opportunity to talk to your students’ parents and families, please do.  They know how hard you work and they deserve to hear what we are fighting for and how they can support you.  Attached are the parent talking points we sent out earlier this week.

American Fidelity – Open Enrollment

If your assigned time falls outside of your work day, please talk with your school secretary about changing your time.  If there is not an open spot to move to within the work day, please call American Fidelity at 1-800-365-8306 and report that you need a change in you appointment time.  I spoke with the Regional Representative working with the district, and American Fidelity is aware of our Work to Rule and will work with us to fit you all in during the work day.

Work to Rule:  Summer PD and Summer School Positions

As a reminder, please see below email that went out to all members this past Wednesday, 4/26/17.  Please be aware that we have TRUE Members (Psychologists, Program Specialists, Counselors, and TOSA’s) that work additional days beyond the classroom teachers’ work year as part of their contract work year.  These TRUE Members will be required to attend PD during their contracted work day and work year.  These are challenging times and we need to look at the big picture of sacrificing now, so we can work to avoid a strike in the fall.

Attached to this email are a number of documents related to negotiations that have been sent out previously.  Regarding the salary schedule document, keep in mind that our contract currently has certificated staff working the longest year and longest day out of the surrounding area school districts.

This is the last School Board meeting of our school year.  We will be sending a new flier next week for you to pass out to your families to ask them to attend this School Board meeting and speak to the Board in support of TRUE’s Negotiations.  Attached to this email is a flier that will go out to all TRUE Members to attend. Subject: Work to Rule Update – PD and Summer School Positions


Please see the below message from Kristin Finney, TRUE President, regarding Summer PD and Summer School:

Dear TRUE Members,

At yesterday’s Site Representative Council Meeting, the topic of Work to Rule and Summer PD was brought up for discussion.  There was a lengthy discussion regarding what position the association should take regarding member attendance at summer PD.

I am emailing to inform you of two motions that were made by members of TRUE’s Site Representative Council regarding participation in Summer PD and working Summer School for Twin Rivers.  Here are the motions and the vote counts that passed both of these.

Motion 1:  I move that TRUE direct our members not to sign up or attend professional development until there is a tentative agreement.  Motion passed with 52 yes, 0 no, 3 abstaining.

Motion 2:  I move that TRUE Association Members, excluding Adult Education Teachers, not take summer school, academic make up and enrichment positions until a tentative agreement is reached. Motion passed with 52 yes, 0 no, 3 abstaining.

What this means is that the position TRUE is taking on PD during work to rule, including Summer PD, is to not sign up or attend until we have reached a tentative agreement. It is my understanding there is an option to disenroll for PD if you have already signed up.  Also, the position TRUE is taking on the district summer school positions, is to not take on those positions.

I appreciate our Site Representatives, Executive Board and Committee Chairs staying until 6:30 p.m. last night to finish our


business and keeping a respectful discussion regarding concerns that were brought forward during the meeting.

These are uncomfortable times and a decision was made yesterday that we are asking all TRUE Members to follow to show the district we are unified in our dedication to come to a fair contract agreement.  During the mediation and fact finding process, the two sides can always come back to the table to come to an agreement.
