Greetings TRUE Members!
I know that many of us have already returned to work, BUT tomorrow will be the first official workday for many of our members. Friday, August 4, 2017 is a PD day based at your school site. Your site Administrator should have sent you an email advising of the schedule for the day. IF you have NOT heard from your site Administrator, you should contact them immediately.
When you are together with your colleagues, please celebrate that we have an Agreement between TRUE and TRUSD. TRUE members voted to ratify the TA with 1009 members out of our approximately 1500, participating. The agreement was accepted and approved by our School Board at a special meeting held last night, August 2, 2017. The next School Board meeting will be Tuesday, August 8, 2017.
WATCH FOR INFORMATION TO BE SENT BY TRUSD for One time 1% of Salary Schedule for Professional Development outside of the regular work day paid from Supplemental Concentration Funding for twelve (12) hours of Professional Development as determined by the District. Attendance is voluntary; however, attendance is required for payment, no pro-ration and must be completed by December 1, 2017.
GREAT NEW$ – Retro pay for 7/1/16 through 6/1/17 will be disbursed by September 15, 2017. Increased pay for 17/18 became effective 7/1/17. A big thanks to our dedicated and hardworking Negotiations team for their continued efforts throughout the summer to make this happen.
PLEASE join us and celebrate our success and pick up your TRUE HAT and lanyard.
TRUE TUESDAYS – To continue clearly communicating to TRUSD that we are STRONGER, and STRONGER TOGETHER, we would like members to continue to wear their TRUE shirts on Tuesday. If you need to purchase an additional shirt, please contact the TRUE Office. NEW HIRES will be able to pick up a free TRUE tshirt, along with a TRUE Hat and lanyard at the TRUE office during our Open House & Back to school Kickoff on Monday, August 7, 3-7PM.
Additionally, we are asking members to work per the contract. DO NOT WORK FOR FREE!
SITE REP ELECTIONS – It is that time of year to elect your TRUE Site Representatives! Please ensure that the procedure outlined in our TRUE By-laws is followed. Elections shall be by open nominations and by secret ballot. Results are to be reported to the TRUE office immediately and the ballots forwarded in a sealed envelope with your site name on the front. It is imperative that the election be executed by a TRUE member whose name is NOT on the ballot. The term of office is 1 year. Each representative unit/school site shall be entitled to one (1) Site Representative for every twenty (20) active TRUE members or major fraction thereof (which is 11 or more). Additionally, there should be at least one alternate per represented unit/school. Our first Rep Council Meeting is Tuesday, August 29, 2017 beginning at 4:00 PM @ CTA Office, 4100 Truxel Rd, Sacramento 95834.
SAVE THE DATE – Tuesday, October 17th @ 5PM GENERAL MEMBERSHIP Meeting. Location TBD.
The last topic I want to address is SWUN. Our previous President and I worked closely on SWUN as it was evolving during our transition period in May/June. I have continued to follow the rollout of SWUN and have been involved in multiple meetings and conversations throughout the summer, most recently earlier today. There have been lots of questions/concerns around the implementation of SWUN. Site Administrators will be providing information to you tomorrow at your meetings. Please know that we have worked really hard to get TRUSD and TRUE on the same page. SWUN is a supplemental program that the District feels is needed to respond to District results in Math scores over the past three years. Teachers are being asked to utilize the SWUN lesson design including the instructional pacing recommended by SWUN. Benchmark exams are being provided by SWUN. We encourage teachers to embrace the support provided by the SWUN coaches and the site by reaching out to your administrator and TOSA resources. You are not expected to implement SWUN until you have been provided with initial training. You will NOT be evaluated on the implementation of SWUN, but will continue to be evaluated on the CSTPs. If at any point you feel your Site Administrator, or anyone, is being punitive or unsupportive of you, please contact TRUE immediately. I know that implementing SWUN in addition to the new ELA adoption is HUGE! TRUE & TRUSD know this is a risk we are asking everyone to take and we want everyone to feel safe in venturing into the 2017-18 school year.
WE ARE STRONGER TOGETHER!
Have a great Friday, and Monday, and Tuesday and everyday…
